USCCA Applauds U.S. House Oversight Hearing on ATF Overreach

West Bend, WI – The U.S. Concealed Carry Association (USCCA) released the following statement on lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives today taking decisive action to address the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF)’s new final rule that redefines a firearm with an attached stabilizing brace as a short-barreled rifle.  These include a joint hearing investigating the anti-gun policies emanating from the Biden Administration as well as a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution to repeal the unconstitutional rule.

“The USCCA, on behalf of our 750,000 members across the country, applauds Subcommittee Chairmen Pat Fallon and Andy Biggs for holding this important oversight hearing on the ATF’s efforts to undercut American’s right to self-defense.  The rule jeopardizes the Second Amendment rights of millions of Americans by requiring countless responsible gun owners to obtain a special registration, surrender, or destroy their stabilizing brace by the compliance date, or face severe criminal penalties.  The USCCA strongly supports congressional oversight of the ATF’s reckless rulemaking that threatens law-abiding American gun owners,” USCCA Managing Director of Government Affairs Katie Pointer Baney said.

In addition to the joint subcommittee hearing – held by the House Oversight Committee’s Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Energy Policy, and Regulatory Affairs the Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Government Surveillance – Reps. Richard Hudson and Andrew Clyde have introduced a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution to repeal the ATF’s pistol brace rule.  Sens. John Kennedy (R-LA) and Roger Marshall (R-KS) introduced the companion resolution in the Senate.

“We support any and all efforts undertaken by Second Amendment champions in Congress to repeal this unconstitutional rule, ” concluded Pointer Baney.
