This week’s video is a little different than our normal Tactical Tuesday training segment. Instead of focusing on a specific set of skills, we look at a new dry-fire training tool, the BarrelBlok. We are joined in studio by Jason Speller, Chief Instructor at the Law Enforcement D.R.A.W. School and inventor of the BarrelBlok.

Jason takes us through a quick failure-to-fire drill to demonstrate his new training product. The BarrelBlok system is made up of two components. The first component is the actual BarrelBlok, which is a cylindrical piece of plastic that is inserted into the open ejection port and fed through the barrel and out the muzzle. The bright orange piece of plastic sticks out of the muzzle approximately an inch, making it clearly visible that the firearm is safe. The second component of the system is the MagBlok. This is a small piece of plastic that resembles half of a cartridge. The MagBlok is inserted into the magazine and allows the slide to freely move without having to use the slide release each time it is cycled by tricking the firearm into thinking it’s “loaded.” Another cool thing? The system comes with three MagBloks so you can practice magazine changes.

The BarrelBlok system allows students to effectively use their everyday carry firearms but renders them temporarily unable to accept ANY fire-live ammunition. This is one of the biggest positives of the product for me. Once inserted, it is impossible to have a negligent discharge. Additionally, it does not require alteration or disassembling of your firearm.

Currently, the BarrelBlok comes in four different calibers for use in semi-automatic handguns: 9mm, .45, .40 and .357. The BarrelBlok is an easy, safe and cost-effective way to dry-fire practice with your pistol. We at the USCCA are huge proponents of dry-fire practice, and this tool is a great way to encourage people to practice even more.

Vary your training. Keep it fun. Keep it safe. And keep practicing.
