In 1976, Jeff Cooper, a WWII and Korean War combat veteran, founded the American Pistol Institute (later Gunsite Academy). The retired lieutenant colonel established the school to offer firearms training to military personnel, law enforcement officers and civilians. “Owning a handgun doesn’t make you armed any more than owning a guitar makes you a musician,” Cooper declared. Gunsite has spent the last four decades ensuring its students can protect themselves or others during a moment of danger. The USCCA wants to give you the chance to train at this world-renowned shooting school.

The Experience

One winner and a guest will spend six nights in Prescott, Arizona, to train at Gunsite Academy. The pair will receive a check for $5,700 to cover all of their travel expenses (hotel, flight, transportation and food). In addition, they will receive a check for $2,500 for entertainment while in Prescott.

There’s something for everyone in Prescott. Old West legends, such as the Earp brothers and “Doc” Holliday, frequented the Downtown Historic Area. Besides its history, the city offers a variety of shops, bars and restaurants. The largest ghost town in the U.S. is located in nearby Jerome. For nature lovers, there is Watson Lake Park, Lynx Lake Recreation Area and the Prescott National Forest. Other entertainment includes the historic Elks Opera House Theatre and Bucky’s and Yavapai Casinos.

Training

The winner and guest will take the five-day 250 pistol training class at Gunsite Academy’s 2,000-acre facility in Paulden. Cooper first introduced the class in October 1976, and it has continued since. Instructors will teach both individuals the Modern Technique of the Pistol (developed by Cooper). The course is for everyone, regardless of age, gender or experience. It includes a combination of range time, lectures, low-light shooting with flashlight techniques, and indoor and outdoor live-fire simulators. Once the course is completed, students will emerge stronger, more alert and conditioned to respond appropriately to any threat. The 250 class fills up quickly due to its popularity. This is a chance to reserve your spot.

Gear

And as always, the USCCA will give you some wonderful gear to take home. The winner and guest will each receive this gear valued at $4,180:

  • Federal Ammo ($500 value)
  • FN 509 9mm pistol ($800 value)
  • FN 15 Military Collector M4 carbine AR rifle ($1,750 value)
  • 5.11 gift card ($1,000 value)
  • Pelican iM2200 Storm Case ($130 value)
