If you are carrying a concealed weapon because you feel you can’t win a physical confrontation with a younger, stronger, more agile opponent, you are already halfway to explaining your actions to the police.

If you can’t complete some of the previous training drills presented in this space, then you don’t have to work on those drills. Practice the firearms training to the level at which you are capable. What you need to be able to do is articulate the reasons for your actions.

Your concealed pistol is your equalizer when you are facing an opponent who could easily overpower you. If you can’t run away, well, then you need to pull your gun and defend yourself. If you are older, disabled, injured or have some other legitimate reason why you can’t effectively fight or safely escape, you have the right to use force sooner than would a younger, stronger, more agile person. Don’t wait until it is too late to fight. But make sure you can explain why you pulled out your concealed pistol when you did.

Win the Race to Call 911

If you pull out your gun for any reason, you must win the race to call 911. Calling 911 makes you the complainant and that means police will be looking to you to explain what happened.
