In 2007 I went to the range with weapon enthusiasts and learned about guns and safety. Soon after I bought a Ruger 38 Special. Easy to load , easy to use, easy to clean. As the 2008 election approached, and the 2A was continually attacked I thought it best to become prepared to defend myself, my family and property.

There are five life experiences that have conspired to render me absolutely prepared to join the USCCA the very first time I heard of Tim Schmidt’s new organization.

Grew up in a law enforcement/ hunting household. Bought my fisrst rifle at 15 from a friend. Always knew how important the 2nd amendment was to this nation. Learned from stories that there were those who would take their positions of power and try everything in the book to stop us from exercising or right(s) and conform us to their visions (sounds like Hitler, communism, and Castro doesn’t it). We KNEW that they would succeed if it went to a battle of monetary attrition. Figured we had better get some help there. The additional benefits we receive were only apparent after we joined.

Worked security for a few years in El Paso Texas. Was on a few sites real close to the border at that time. When I moved to Central Texas, I had kept my side arm, and decided to get a concealed carry license later when my current boss sent me to the border to meet with customers. I currently work on boats instead of doing security now, but still remember a lot of my experiences on the border, and keep a fire arm on me when I go.

We live off the road a little ways and at the time, our town had a part time police force. After coming home to an empty house one afternoon I heard what sounded like someone running thru the house.

Not a real awaking. Having served in the US Military and in Law Enforcement carry a firearm was all part of the duty uniform. ON duty and off. As I retired from active service the logical selection was to continue to carry concealed normally and on rare occassions to open carry. The prospect of home protection as well outside the home during routine everyday travel has become common place.
